It seems that most artists don’t choose their art so much as the art chooses them.  Ideas, melodies, lyrics,  patterns and structures seem to flow constantly through the minds of those destined to create. To most it is both a blessing and a curse and to most it would be un-imaginable to have it any other way.  For Dave Adnams it is no different.

Adnams’ love for music is rivalled only by his love for hockey.  It may seem like a curious duality for a young man born in Dallas, Texas but his Canadian roots run deep.  Although the ‘Lone Star State’ is where he entered the world, it was to Canadian parents that he was born and in Edmonton/Winnipeg that he was raised. It is here where he developed his affinity for creating music and his fanaticism for Canada’s game.

Late in 2007 Adnams partnered with Gold Record producer and 2010 Juno nominee Ryan Stewart (Carly Rae Jepsen, Carmen and Camille) at WineCellar Music Studios in North Vancouver to record his debut album.  Early in 2008 the self-titled EP was released with songs that range from the heartfelt folk sound of ‘Always You’ to the radio-ready pop tendencies of ‘Everything You Are’.  With the doors to the music industry now open, Adnams started to gain recognition as an up and coming artist and immediately hit the road with good friend and fellow singer-songwriter Myc Sharratt (http://www.myspace.com/mycsharratt ).  Their tour in the summer of 2008 saw them take the stage at such notable venues as Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta, GA (John Mayer, Shawn Mullins) and Uncommon Ground in Chicago, IL (Jeff Buckley, David Gray).  Coming off of the tour Adnams made a permanent move to Vancouver, BC and took some time to explore what goes on behind-the-scenes in the Canadian music industry. In the meantime songs from his EP were being played nationwide on various CBC radio programs and on numerous internet radio stations. The song ‘Everything You Are’ was selected by Virgin radio 95.3 FM Vancouver for their Best of BC spotlight and ‘Always You’ was voted one of the top 5 best songs heard for the month of March ’09 by Songwriter Universe Magazine.  With no promotional budget and little promotional knowledge the EP had made larger waves than expected. This encouraged Adnams to continue down the music path and learn how to be successful as an independent artist.

Learning, improving and creating are three things that Adnams holds in high regard and puts into practice as much as possible. With this in mind, there is no doubt that his upcoming  sophomore release will be something special and will further endear him to the hearts and minds of music fans everywhere.  He can be found playing stages in Vancouver on a regular basis both as a guitar player for many of his talented friends and as the center of attention, showcasing his own creations for those eager to lend their ears.
